TEMPO.CO, JakartaProvincial Narcotics Agency (BNNP) of Jakarta demanded universities more actively eradicate networks of illegal drug dealers among students.

“Campus is expected to have high awareness to conduct dissemination or urine test,” said BNNP Jakarta head dr. Wahyu Wulandari in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 30.

Wahyu appealed to universities to be vigilant and independent, and so BNN (national narcotics agency) would give a hand in supervising the eradication program of narcotics and marijuana in college.

The agency, she added, would develop the formation of volunteers from university students to represent BNN in tackling illegal drugs. As of date, several universities in Jakarta had established anti-narcotics volunteers.

“If there is a case [of drug abuse], we hope those volunteers will report it to BNN through intensive communication,” she said.

Earlier, West Jakarta Resort Police arrested five marijuana dealers. Two of them, identified as TW and PHS, were active students at a private university in East Jakarta, while the other three; HK, AT, and FF, were dropout students. They even had the transaction at the campus.

The police confiscated 12 kilograms of marijuana from them. They are charged with Article 111 of Law 35/2009 and would face a minimum of 20 years behind bars or a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
